A young and freshly alien-obsessed version of myself came up with this concept as an exploration of color, character design, texture, and editing. The band, “The Killers” is a staple in my coming-of-age journey and hold a special place in my heart. It only felt right to combine their music with m current passion at the time.

The lyrics for the song “Spaceman” describe an alien abduction taking place. However, by choosing to use an instrumental version of the song, I was challenged to stick with the theme and tell a story of my own.

We jump from one highly energetic and colorful scene to the next as we follow the journey of a small round dinosaur as he is poked, prodded, sliced, and stretched by an (unseen) alien intelligence.

Color & material

The color scheme is based on a childlike essence aimed to strike a cross between a pastel and “chicken little” vibe. Like a sci-fi nursery rhyme to complement the cheery upbeat nature of the track it inspired.

The opening scene is an exploration of texture and color variation using digital watercolor and various other digital paintbrushes. Collage was also explored by creating repeating shapes using images with texture, as seen in the lake water. The collage effect ended up looking a bit like a glitch effect. Unintended, but embraced.
